The LEGO Group doesn't do LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitation training

Instead the LEGO Group say you have two routes for attending LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® training. Trainers in the original method and trainers of an expanded version of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method.

Introducing latest in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator training innovation

Serious Work training embodies the expansion the LEGO Group refer to. They advance the traditional model of teaching LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® in the following ways:
  • Learn to facilitate, not participate
Serious Work training takes the opposite approach to the “master-learner” style of most trainers of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology.

Whilst the traditional model of training gives participants an excellent experience of what it is like to
be facilitated our masterclasses instead help you develop your facilitation skills with the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology.
  • Practice based
After instruction, participants in our training take turns to facilitate the group. This practice helps you develop your facilitation skills and you learn from the experience of how others facilitate the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology.

Each sprint is linked to an important facilitator skill set. Uniquely, you also get to practice with a group you’ve never met. On the evening of day 2 we invite people new to the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method to an introductory workshop and you facilitate a session with a small group you have never met.
  • Small groups of 6 participants - maximum
In order to learn how to facilitate and have time for everyone in the group to practice new skills means we limit our courses to 6 people. Larger training workshops inevitably mean there is little time for everyone to have time to practice facilitation.
  • Focusing on the core LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® skills
Our training focuses on Level 1 “Individual Model Building” and Level 2 “Shared Model Building”. These are the foundation skills of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® process.

Traditional LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® training typically asks a group of about 12 trainees, who don’t know each other, to prepare a joint strategy during a 4-day training course. Inevitably this construct is unlike real world applications and in our experience it's hard to learn to facilitate Level 3 “System Building" in this way.

Our training gives you an experience of Level 3 “System Model Building”, but this skill is best learnt on live projects…
  • Learn advanced LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® skills on live projects
Our approach to learning Level 3 “System Model Building” is to teach on live assignments, co-facilitating together with a experienced level 3 facilitator, who will teach you at the same time.
  • Focused and intensive
We know that your time is valuable. Because we focus on the core LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® skills it means our standard training is 2 long days (first day 09.00-18:00, second day 09:00-21:00).
  • A selective participatory leadership ethos
We aim to gather high quality groups of learners who share our ethos and who can bring additional value and insight to our masterclasses.

Before we confirm a participants place, we insist on a phone call or video conference. This is a chance for us to meet each other and explore if this course will meet your objectives and enable you to do what it is you hope to do.

You can question us on our approach and we seek to understand your motivation, ethos and fit with the group. By having this quality control, we ensure a better learning experience for all.

You won’t have to endure trying-to-learn with people who's experience, views and values don't fit the high quality, professional, peer-to-peer learning culture our training seeks to deliver.
  • We offer a pathway to a meaningful certification
In most LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® training programmes people get a certificate just for showing up (a certificate of completion). You’ll get one of these on our programme. But a certificate of competency is far more valuable to you and your prospective clients, it's impartial and after peer review of your skill, you can attain a higher level of facilitation certification.

As International Association of Facilitators (IAF) Certified™ Professional Facilitators. We have this experience and can coach you through the process.
  • Serious Work masterclasses are run by practitioners who occasionally teach
This gives you a grounded real-world instruction with advice about how to successfully use the method in all kinds of different assignments, applications, group size and available time.

Paul Brown
Agile and Products Coach: Ministry of Justice

"I have had the pleasure of being instructed by Sean on two different LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® courses now and I have to say, both times I spent a fantastic couple of days learning and doing the practices with him and the other wonderful people who shared the training experience with me.

I am a huge fan of what and how Sean does what he does - I have learned SO much from him. He is the kind of mentor / teacher everyone wants and deserves; thoughtful, strong, hugely knowledgeable, empathetic and with a level of technical and interpersonal skill that I have rarely seen.

I feel very lucky indeed to have been able to share time with him and I look forward to continuing to build on our relationship in the future as a student, client and friend."

"Just a thanks, as one human to another for creating such a lovely learning space. I feel like you crafted a lovely warm Petri dish of agar jelly for us all to grow in, and I was one happy microbe!

It's said, that people may not remember what you said (though in this case we hope they will!) but they will remember how you made them feel. There are many moments in the future when all of us will channel our inner Sean, which is a very powerful thing to have imparted.

Please print this message, and put it somewhere illogical. I have the hope that at some point in the future you might unexpectedly come across it and be reminded of what you achieved for us today."
